Guide for installers: Navigating the Victoria Solar for Apartments Program Post EOI Approval

With the first round of the Victoria Solar for Apartments grant program concluding on 31st May 2024, it's a critical time for solar installers to assist their Melbourne-based clients in leveraging this opportunity.

This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to ensure a smooth implementation of shared solar projects for apartment complexes post-EOI approval, using SolShare.

About the VIC Solar for Apartments Program

The Solar for Apartments program offers grants of up to $2,800 per apartment, with a cap of $140,000 per building for up to 50 apartments to install shared rooftop solar.

Your Client's EOI has Been Approved, What Now?

Once your client's EOI is approved by Solar Victoria, there is a 90 day period to complete and submit the Owners Corporation’s final application. After this final application is approved, installation may then commence.

5 Steps for a Successful Grant Approval:

Project Approval Letter

Facilitate the acquisition of a letter from two authorised representatives of the Owners Corporation, which confirms their authority to enter a funding agreement, outlines the installation plan, and ensures the equitable sharing of solar benefits.

Organise Documents

Once your client's EOI is approved, they will receive templates from Solar Victoria for drafting necessary resolutions and approvals, helping to streamline the process.

Documents to prepare:

  • Notice of proposed special resolution by ballot;
  • Letter from the Owners Corporation to Solar Victoria demonstrating the OC approves the Solar PV project; and
  • Funding agreement.
Final Quote Submission

Compile a comprehensive quote including all necessary details such as system design, costs, and expected benefits.

  1. The final solar PV system design (including the eligible products to be installed and the system’s capacity and expected energy generation);
  2. The total costs for supply and installation of the solar PV system;
  3. The value of small-scale technology certificates (STCs) applied to the project;
  4. The location on the building where the solar PV system will be installed;
  5. The final number of participating lots;
  6. Any relevant connection details;
  7. The estimated benefits per participating lot;
  8. The annualised return on investment/payback period for the total purchase and installation in accordance with the New Energy Tech Consumer Code (NETCC);
  9. The payment due date; and
  10. If the project involves solar sharing technology, any interface protection device and warranty information.
Banking and Final Application Forms

As a Solar Victoria authorised solar retailer, please assist in finalising and submitting the necessary documentation to establish the financial framework for the project.

Additionally, ensure to provide a detailed final quote itemising the required information.

  2. the total costs for supply and installation of the solar PV system;
  3. the value of small-scale technology certificates (STCs) applied to the project;
